Do you "love too much"?

Ten steps toward sexual freedom:
1 Admit that your sexual identity needs reshaping.
2 Make your own list.
3 Identify the theme.
4 Learn the lesson.
5 Forgive others.
6 Forgive yourself.
7 Create a "no contact" rule.
8 Create a "no comparison" rule.
9 Keep your slate clean.
10 Forget intensity and focus on intimacy.

  1. Hmm... these are hard! :)
I really liked the Little House on the Prairie books as a girl. I never read books a second time, so I often forget them after I've read them!
Film - Pride and Prejudice, the 5 hour BBC version. SO GOOD!
Song - too many :) but "Labor of Love" comes to mind
Poem - the one Nicole printed in Isaac's painting
Fairy tale - probably the basic Cinderella plot - what girl doesn't love that idea?!

I'm not sure that I love too much, I'm pretty cautious about my relationships with other males, even in movies and books. I've definitely had moments where I know, "I need to stop watching this show or reading this book because I'm thinking about this character way too much!" I also know there are real males in my life that I shouldn't spend too much time with (and NO time alone with) otherwise I end up thinking about how cool certain character traits are that they have and my husband doesn't have. And that doesn't lead me down the right paths mentally.

  2. Common themes in works of art to find your personal style:

    Book:
    Juvenile- A Wrinkle in Time
Adult- Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

    Film:
    Favorite- Shawshank Redemption
Could watch weekly- You've Got Mail

    Poem:
Juvenile- Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too by Shel Silverstein & I Love You More Than Applesauce by Jack Prelutsky
Adult- Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson

Fairytale: I don't really have a favorite but the standby I normally go to is The Three Little Pigs

Song: Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes or other Paul Simon songs. Also Paul McCartney, John Lee Hooker or James Taylor.

Zac said my theme is geek. :) I think I value oddity and I don't necessarily view people as heroes or value them more when they do what needs to get done or do something they enjoy.

I just don't see myself being drawn to other males. I suppose I compare sometimes but mostly just because I always view my husband as a better match for me than anyone else.

My dad (and SEVERAL other people- guy friends, my boss at work, other women) have told me I am intimidating, which I don't always see... and honestly when I do get what they are talking about I don't often want to change just because someone else is insecure. I don't feel like I am competing with other women nor do I feel like I am a great teacher, artist, cook or anything else. I just do things that I enjoy and do them the way I think they should be done.

  3. Nicole, my Dad was proud of me for being intimidating. I think that's mostly because it was usually evident when I was dealing with certain types of guys. He was very happy for me to scare off "less than worthy" men or boys. ;-)

I can't think of specific films, books or songs, but I can think of trends. I love fiction and nonfiction books that tell the story of people's lives. Examples would be James Mitchener's books, historical fiction and biographies/autobiographies. I love music, but am ambivalent about lyrics. Similarly, I'm not that interested in poetry. I have an emotional connection to music, but not so much to words or visual art.

I do admit that I like "knight in shining armor" stories in books or movies, but not with helpless women. (Like Liz, I liked Pride and Prejudice, both as a book and movie.) I think that's interesting, because I'm a pretty independent woman, but I guess sometimes it's nice to not have to be so self-sufficient.

  4. Hey Jessica, what are your favorites?
You can write back when you have a computer set up at your new house, obviously. :)

  5. Hi Everybody,
    I'm back...
    What was the list again...
I love a good mystery. I don't like reading the same author for to long, otherwise, I start to be able to figure out who done it by the end of the second chapter.
American Grafitti or White Chritmas. American Grafitti because there is good music and GREAT cars. White Chritmas because it is just a beautiful film and is a classic in color. Also, the endless amazement of how the one lead actress manages to get her feet to tap that fast?
Music...Stevie Ray Vaughn, I will listen to almost anything. Although, now that I am a mom, I pay more attention to lyrics and there is a lot of stuff I won't listen to because I don't want the boys listening to it.
    Poem, don't have one.
Fairytale, I like the white knight. I think I am pretty independent, but I like to know that when I get a flat tire or need something heavy moved that all I have to do is make chocolate chip cookies and my dad, Rick, or one of my brothers will be glad to do almost anything.
No, I don't think I love to much. Although, with all the guys (related to me) I spend time with, I don't feel the need or desire to make close friends with guys.

  6. Favorite work of fiction?
I like stories and novels like Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Four Feathers...things that actually have a plot and reason for being. Ones that talk about honor, value, love, commitment, strength of character. Things our culture no longer values and chooses to either write about or put into film. They all make great movies, but I grew up not watching much tv at all and so these are books I cherished and read over and over and over as a girl.

Favorite film? I don't really have a favorite one though I've watched Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice and Secret Garden more than any other movie. Oh and I have Princess Bride completely memorized :D

Favorite song? Again not sure about an only favorite one, music speaks to me and plays a huge part in my life. Like Jessica though since becoming a mom I heavily sensor which songs are on because of content. My husband totally doesn't get this at all because some songs that are "classics" to him are completely inapropriate for my children's ears!

    Favorite poem? The Old Violin

Favorite fairy tale? probably Cinderella just because I watched it the most
