A Holy Nation -- Week 5

If I were to go through the Word of God studying only one word, love, I would never get to the end of the wonders.  ~Catherine Mackenzie

Reading is Exodus 10-30.

  1. We were sick and got behind. ...huh. Please pray for us to keep reading as a family and not just me. I really want to just read to get it done and not read as a family (my husband included).

  2. Has it ever dawned on you before that Pharaoh must not have been a first born because he survived the night when all the first born were killed? For some reason that really struck me yesterday.
I will be praying that you continue to read as a family.
It is fun and interesting to hear the questions and/or comments the boys come up with when I read the Bible out loud to them.

    1. I don't understand this part about Pharaoh. I even tried to think about it as I read it. He was the same age that he would have been killed? I thought he gave the decree to kill them? I am confused.

We are STILL working on healing. My poor husband.
The little one is sleeping in her bed now so that is nice.

They have been tuning out reading some of the Bible lately. The old testament is difficult to listen to for them. The look at their picture Bibles or write. Today was playing with princesses though because all the dishes and ponies got put away so they could get out Little People princesses. It is so much fun to sleep with Little People lining the edges of your bed.

  3. Chapter 17, verse 15...Jehovahnissi...THE LORD IS MY BANNER
Had to look this up as it reminded me of a song I enjoy by Mia Koehne. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdzx5Qxm3Oc

  4. Exodus 22:5 God saw them in the land of promise as He is giving law for vineyards.

Exodus 22:16 the men are being held accountable for enticing women.

Exodus is interesting in that as I'm reading chapters 18-22, I am seeing where the injustice of slavery in our country came from and the justification of the Salem witch trials (v. 18). The Bible REALLY does need to be read as a whole and in context of a loving God.

    1. "Men are being held accountable for enticing women." Can you give an example of this today? Or men enticing women?

Slavery doesn't seem to be a horrible thing in the Bible.
People don't read the Bible if they don't already believe that at least part of what it says is true.

    2. Sex slavery? Human trafficking?
Telling a poor woman that she can make money and help her family by selling her body.

  5. Exodus 23:29, god did lay out the plan for all the people to not immediately be driven out of the Promised Land. interesting! I am always left with a feeling of being let down at the end of Joshua. like why stop now?

Exodus 24:10, seventy plus people saw God.
    That doesn't seem right.

Do you think Aaron's garments, described in chapter 28 wore out? How often did they have to be replaced?

    1. So they saw God? I thought you couldn't see God. I thought only Abraham saw him? I thought other people, like Hagar, only saw His back?

Are they seeing Christ then? Because Christ is the physical form of God.

  6. How can anyone read the law and not think "blood bath"?

    1. There seem to be a lot of rules and death does seem to be the consequence. I feel like it would make me want to hide my sins out of fear.
